Twelve bedrooms. Six bathrooms. A tiered movie theatre, a six car garage, dedicated artwork rooms, oversized laundry and storage, and a clean energy plant that carries the house 365 days a year on its own.
The idea
The plan puts the collection first. A double height foyer opens into a mezzanine gallery, and a 92 foot hanging wall runs the spine of the upper floor. Bedrooms, baths and service rooms wrap the outside edges so the middle of the house stays quiet, lit and hangable.
Spaces
The entry runs two stories. Light comes from above, never straight onto the walls, so the long sightline from the door to the far end of the upper hall stays usable for hanging.
Fourteen seats on three tiers, a projection wall on the short end, and a fully isolated room shell so a film at midnight does not reach the bedrooms above it.
Two guest suites on the main floor for anyone who should not take stairs. Ten upstairs, grouped in wings so a full house still feels sorted into households.
One north lit room for daylight viewing and working, one blacked out room on track lighting for controlled shows, plus a framing studio and flat file archive.
Six bays, wide doors, EV circuits at every bay fed from the house battery, and a direct route into the storage rooms so crates never travel through living space.
A large laundry on each floor with folding runs and drying space, and two conditioned storage rooms held at gallery humidity for canvas, paper and frames.
The art gallery at home
Hanging walls are drawn before furniture. That means no windows punched into a gallery run, no outlets at picture height on a hanging wall, no doors swinging into a sightline, and continuous blocking behind the drywall so heavy pieces hang anywhere without hunting for studs.
Recessed track on every gallery run, dimmable to gallery levels, with daylight brought in high and bounced off the ceiling rather than across the work.
Gallery zones and storage rooms run on their own humidity control, separate from bedrooms, so an open front door in July does not move the whole house.
Outlets are generous through living, work and service rooms, and deliberately low or absent on hanging walls. Lighting circuits are separate from general power.
Energy
The target is simple: the house makes, stores and manages its own electricity year round, including the theatre, the gallery climate, the garage chargers and a winter week with no sun. Solar on the roof, a battery bank in a dedicated energy room, ground source heat for the loads that would otherwise eat the battery, and a controller that decides what runs when.
